Mission and History of CEPROS
The mission of CEPROS (Centre for Evaluation, Prevention and Research of Substance Abuse) is to explore new ways to:
- reduce the substance abuse and associated negative phenomena in the Czech Republic population with a special emphasis on the health of children and adolescents,
- strengthen prevention, diagnostics and treatment of health disorders caused by risky lifestyle.
CEPROS, the public service organisation, was established in 2004 as an independent research and evaluation base for the prevention, diagnostics and treatment of health disorders caused by the substance abuse and risky behaviour namely in children and adolescents.
The goal of CEPROS is to develop, test and disseminate new strategies and knowledge in the area of drug prevention and public health both in the Czech Republic and in international co-operation. By way of its research CEPROS is developing evidence-based strategies to help physicians, especially practitioners for children and adolescents, and educators to identify initial signs of drug abuse and disorders caused by risky lifestyle in children and adolescents and to intervene before any serious damage occurs.
CEPROS provides the following services:
- research and development in the field of addiction, mental health and public health,
- consultancy and evaluation work in the field of addiction, mental health and public health,
- dissemination of new knowledge and best practices in the field of addiction, mental health and public health.
CEPROS work is based on the following three principles:
- all activities are undertaken on the basis of impartial, measurable scientific data,
- all activities are based on the principle of independence and impartiality in relation to any structures and ideology,
- the priority of our research is a fast and efficient dissemination of scientific data to the professional and parent communities to be used in practice.
